Your background information of Khaled Hosseini was pertinent and important especially as you described how it related to the themes of his work, primarily how he writes of Kabul, Afghanistan. Additionally you did a good job of outlining the political and social background in Afghanistan at the time. Your description of the plot of both The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns was solid and though I had previously read The Kite Runner, I felt I that you provided a holistic understanding of both novels. You did a good job of clearly identifying the literary devices used by Hosseini, but I think you could’ve explained it more in a thesis format in the presentation in order to argue how the stylistic choices enhanced the meaning of the respective works as a whole.
You broke down each literary device (parallelism, irony, narrative voice, motifs, and imagery) with a clear goal on each slide and it was very well organized. You explicated each point you had to make on each slide and it made sense in light of the novels’ plots, however I think you could’ve provided more quotes to prove the texture of the author’s writing and also provide research and literary criticism quotes and citations to further this proof. Overall you did a great job outlining each of these stylistic choices by Hosseini (and I particularly liked your arguments that the privileged boy is the voice of the oppressed and the irony of the motifs used, along with the use of outcast groups like Hazaras and women) but I think you could’ve applied it more towards the significance of the works as a whole.
